< Take Me Back >

Take Me Back is an immersive installation that transforms a traditional Korean wooden window into a portal between memory, place, and displacement. Suspended within a darkened, tent-like space, the window combines acrylic mirror, translucent materials, mosaic film, fabric, and Islamic-inspired patterns, recalling a childhood memory connected to the Dome of the Rock. Rather than recreating a specific place, the installation reconstructs the feeling of encountering it through light, spirituality, and wonder. The Korean window, removed from its original context and layered with Palestinian visual references, becomes a space where two geographies and identities meet.

The artwork is activated by the viewer, who enters the darkened space carrying a flashlight to gradually reveal the hidden colors, reflections, and patterns. The shifting light evokes the fragmented and fleeting nature of memory, while worn Palestinian patterned fabric encloses the installation like a childhood tent beneath an olive tree. Four keys suspended from the window reference the Palestinian key of return, connecting personal memory to collective displacement and longing for home. Through light, movement, material, and participation, Take Me Back transforms a private memory into a shared experience of remembering, belonging, and return.
