Where We Once Played is a participatory botanical etching installation rooted in childhood memories of the Palestinian landscape. The series depicts three plants closely connected to Palestinian land and lived knowledge: the poppy, Faqqua iris, and Arum Palestinum. Each plant is framed by patterns inspired by Tatreez, traditional tiles, and local motifs, bringing together botanical and cultural forms.
The work consists of thirteen prints, referencing the thirteen grapevines that grew in the artist’s childhood home and arranging them in the form of a grape-cluster Tatreez motif. Printed in varied colors and subtle differences of pressure, the repeated images reflect how memory remains connected to place while changing over time.
During the exhibition, viewers were invited to freely rearrange the wooden panels, transforming the installation into an evolving composition. Through this interaction, the work explores land, memory, belonging, and the continuous reshaping of cultural identity across distance.
